And, when you create one yourself, it just makes it that little bit more special (especially when you realise how much money you save in doing so!).
In this blog (because we think you deserve it), we’re sharing how to make a flower crown with real flowers, so you can create your own beautiful floral headpiece whenever you fancy:
How to Make a Flower Crown With Real Flowers
If you’ve decided to DIY your flower crown, we salute you. You’ve opted for fun, saving money, and gorgeous results!
First things first, you’ll need to order your flowers. Head to our website to choose your colour package, and we’ll deliver your blooms straight to your door.
Once they’ve arrived, you can get started!
Ready? Here’s how to make a flower crown with real flowers:
Step 1: Measure Your Head
Take a length of wire (which you can purchase on our website), and wrap it around the front half of your head, starting from one side, working your way across your forehead, and finishing at the other side, just above and behind your ear.
This will give you a semicircle of perfectly-fitted wire to work with. Twist the ends into small loops — this is important, as you’ll need them for tying your ribbon.
Step 2: Start Prepping Your Stems
Now for the fun bit! It’s time to start putting your flowers together.
Top tip: If you have roses, you can remove the guard petals, which are often slightly discoloured, for fresher looking stems. If, however, you’re opting for a rustic or vintage theme, you may choose to keep these on!
The aim is to make small posies, which you’ll later attach to the crown. Three stems here work quite well as a minimum; a focal flower, a filler, and foliage — but mix it up a little as you go, and be as creative as you like!
Bind each posy together with florist tape, and trim the stems.
Step 3: Attach the Flowers
Once you have all your flowers, you can start attaching them to the wire half-crown you made earlier. To do so, carefully bind the stems to the wire with tape — but be sure to keep each posy tightly knit, to avoid glaring gaps in your finished product.
Angle each flower diagonally upwards or downwards, alternating directions to ensure even coverage.
Sit in front of a mirror, and every so often model the crown against your head. This will help you spot any imperfections or areas that may need a little more attention.
Keep going until the length of your wire is full, and you’re happy with how it looks.
Step 4: Fasten Your Crown With Ribbon
Next, take a length of ribbon and thread it through the two loops on your wire, before popping it on your head.
Tighten or loosen the ribbon until the flower crown is comfortable (it shouldn’t slip, nor should it dig in), and tie in place. Cut the loose ends at an angle, et voilà! Now you’re ready to wow the crowds with your beautiful creation!
